Streamline Your Home Screen

First step animation

It's time to redesign your phone's home screen to reflect your new, distraction-free device.

You've made great progress tweaking your technology to be more respectful of your time and attention. Now let's update your phone's home screen to reflect that.

Why it's important

Every time you open your phone, there's a chance you'll get pulled into something you weren't planning to.

Why have the email app taking up space on your home screen, just begging to be checked every time you open up your phone?

How we'll do this

We're going to redesign your home screen in an intentional way that's designed to help you get the most out of your phone, rather than letting your phone getting the most out of you.

Going forward, your phone will just have a single, streamlined home screen. All other apps will be out of the way in the App Drawer, where you can search for them anytime you need them.

Your single action

Only include non-distracting apps on your home screen.

  1. Remove all apps from your home screen
  2. Only add back apps that won't cause distraction - It's OK if this is only 4 or 5 apps.

Apps to keep off of your home screen:

  • Email
  • Slack / Microsoft Teams / Workspace Messaging
  • Web Browser
  • Banking and Finance Apps
  • Shopping Apps
  • App Store
  • Miscellaneous, low-usage apps (Settings, Travel Apps, etc).
  • Social Media Apps (ideally you deleted these already)
  • News Apps (ideally you deleted these already)

Apps that are OK to keep on the home screen:

  • Maps
  • Music
  • Audiobooks & Podcasts
  • Phone App
  • SMS / Messaging App
  • To Do App

Tip: Remember, just because an app isn't on your home screen doesn't mean you can't access it. You can "Search" for an app anytime you want to find it.
