Web Browsing

First step animation

The average person sees an estimated 6,000 to 10,000 ads per day.

There is no way that's good for you or your ability to focus.

Today we're going to make some adjustments to your computer to help you win back your ability to focus while online.

Why it's important

Web browsing has a way of sucking our attention down rabbit holes.

We might go to Amazon to buy toothpaste, only to be recommended to watch the latest TV show on Amazon Prime.

Or we might go to Facebook to see what our friends have been up to, only to have our stress levels spike with the latest political scandal plastered across the newsfeed.

How we'll do this

Luckily, there are some quick wins we can implement to alleviate these unintended consequences of web browsing.

The browser extensions below allow you to simplify your browsing experience so you only see what's essential and can ignore what isn't. (A browser extension is like a mini-app that enhances the features of your web browser, like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox)

Follow the instructions below to install these attention-saving browser extensions.

Your single action

Avoid the distractions by installing these extensions on your web browser.

Steps:

  1. Install FB Newsfeed Eradicator (only see your Facebook feed if you explicitly turn it on. Facebook will now be "search only" by default)
  2. Install Amazon Lite (simplifies the Amazon interface and removes recommended products)
  3. Install uBlock Origin Ad Blocker (blocks ads on webpages and videos)

By taking 2 minutes to install these extensions, you'll prevent thousands of future attacks on your attention.
